Life Long Learning

Life-Long Learning

One of the serious issues with years of formal education is the assumption that the only way to learn is in formal settings, like classrooms and lecture halls. We all know that we can learn a great deal from life and living. But after we spend years in academic environments, it is tempting to abandon that style of learning for a while, only to be tempted to return to it much later to pursue further education. To me, that is not the issue.

The issue is that we should continue to be purposeful in our learning, deliberately and intentionally, as a matter of a life-style of learning. A kind of learning that is self-improvement oriented for our own benefit. Learning is stimulating and it makes us more interesting to be around. Deciding to be a life-long learner is a good thing and to be admired as normal. There are so many resources available now for personal study. I have made it my goal to keep learning—for life!

Would you agree that your learning is important too? If so, then keep learning! Do not stop the learning process. Ask harder questions! Spend time with friends who know things you do not. Be willing to venture into new areas of interest. Pursue learning for the fun of it. Search the Internet with view to learning new things. Listen to television with the computer in your lap, and look up what they are talking about—maybe you learn some new things. Reading helps.
