#6. Leaders: Magnanimous
Magnanimous in leadership is a kind of generosity, being liberal in not rendering what you would think is deserved. It is taking the high road, forgiving, not being easily offended. It can involve a willingness to be wrong, even when you think the other person is wrong, just in case, you might be wrong.
I first became aware of this quality of leadership… when the Portland, Maine newspaper featured my photo on the front-page, only they had substituted my head with the head of Luis Palau. Further, the article was quite sarcastic, less than complimentary, with the headline: “What Does Luis Palau Want From Maine?” I was fully expecting Luis to be upset, even angry, but instead, he was so excited that he was featured with a front-page article giving free publicity to our ministry. He thought all this was great. Luis Palau was clearly a magnanimous leader. He just had a different perspective, which I did not have then.
Can you think of how you can be a magnanimous leader with any of the following persons in your ministry? (i.e., pastor, board members, vendors, volunteers, seniors, kids, parents, critics, relatives, friends) Try to write a sentence with this new word.
Leadership Qualities This is a series to discuss some basic qualities of leadership and how it might apply to those in children’s ministry.
