We had an wonderfully eventful mission trip to Oaxaca, Mexico. Some fifty-two of us journeyed by bus to remote and needy places. The most wonderful part of the trip was that “God was with us.” He promised us that He would be with us, you know. It says in Matthew 28:19-20, “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I will be with you always, to the end of the age.” The Lord sure was there with us. One of the reasons I like to do mission work is that you get to experience the power and presence of God. He provided all we needed in every situation.

Here is just one example, and there are many, of how He showed His powerful presence.

One afternoon, we took a eight-hour bus ride from Oaxaca to a remote mountain village of San Juan Teponaxtla. The narrow muddy mountain road to the village required that we switch to a smaller bus to manage the last three-hour ride to the village. After two hours, right in the middle of a switch-back bend in the mountain road, our bus bogged down in the mud. After several gallant tries, the wheels just spun, we could make no further headway. We were seriously stuck, even after efforts to shovel mud away from the tires. We had another hour to drive and it was now really dark. We began to imagine being there a long time. I remembered our muddy-road experiences in Panama. Nothing was working. So we stopped trying, and we gathered in the bus and we all fervantly prayed, out load (all at once). We claimed the help of the Ever Present One, and Jesus came to our rescue. Then there was peace. It was a glorious moment, when on the first try, the bus driver drove away, like nothing had happened. Maybe, angels were sent just to give us a  push, as one suggested.

We all erupted into cheering and clapping for Jesus. It was a great Celebration of God’s Goodness for us. It sure confirmed that the Lord wanted us there.
