• Intense Fellowship?

Posted by: kidhelper on Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

Nothing like good fellowship at Children’s Pastors’ Conference luncheon. A time to spend some quality time sharing and catching up with your friends. That is what this conference is all about, for sure. Nothing like it. Now we get together once a year for a good time. Yah! This is Twenty-First Century Networking among friends.

• Kidmin Blog Madness

Posted by: kidhelper on Monday, March 14th, 2011

It’s time for another epic contest to see which kids ministry blogger will become a champion. You may even discover a few new blogs you’d like to follow. We will have three rounds, mirroring the NCAA basketball tournament. We are in the running, see if you can find Kidhelper and vote, if you will. There are many excellent choices here…like Kidology, Scripture Lady and iTodd.

Go to http://ministry-to-children.com/kids-ministry-bm2011 and Vote below by picking your favorites in each of the four regional divisions. Then go rally support for your friends.

This is all just for fun, but there will a big prize. Hint — it rhymes with my dad and has the number two in it’s name. The official announce will come in the second round. This round will close on March 19th and the top four blogs in each bracket will advance.

• The Great INEQUITY

Posted by: kidhelper on Monday, March 14th, 2011

The Great Inequity

From my travels outside of the United States I have discover a Great Inequity. Ninety-Five percent of the children of the world do not live in the United States. That means only five percent of the world’s children live here. However, of all the resources that are available to reach and teach children Ninety-Five percent of the resources are only available for the Five Percent that live here. The rest of the world’s children are without. This is the Great Inequity!

I know that my ministry will never be able to solve this problem, it is just too enormous. However, I have determined to do something about it, maybe in a small way, but non-the-less a very intentional way. For sometime now, I have a growing passion to work with few select persons to establish Kid-Helper Resource Centers in various countries that I have visited. The Resource Centers will house the gospel resources that would be useful for children’s leaders to reach and teach children in places were resources are almost non-existent.

These Centers will be like a Lending Library

Leaders: Strategic Planner #5

For me a strategic planner in leadership is exemplified by the ability to see beyond the ordinary, to envision opportunities inherently present to you, but not obvious to all. Therefore, the strategic leader creates a plan to implement this insight and is able to lead his/her team “to raise the bar” for accomplishment. This requires a prayerful, but “studied approach” to your ministry.

Here are my Six Tips to be more of a strategic leader:

Cody

Leaders: Celebrate Success #4

Today, I attended a High School Graduation Party for my friend Michael’s son Cody.  I was very honored to be included with Cody’s family and friends who all showed support, care and love for his accomplishment. Everyone wrote some memory or some kind message of congratulations. It was really neat to hear what the relatives and family said to Cody. However, we were all choked up with emotion when Michael told how proud he was of his son for his courage to finish, overcoming many odds. Then he presented Cody with a medal of excellence to mark the achievement, which he hung around Cody’s neck. We all erupted with applause, not many dry eyes in the room.

When it was all over, I learned that it was Cody who invited me to come, not my friend Michael. Now I was especially glad that I went. It was about affirmation and care, for a job well done. We must celebrate the victories—it makes a memory. We draw confidence from our success. I drove home thinking about how affirmation and recognition from family and friends was really what this party was about.

However, in reflecting upon my experience today….
