• The Second Floor Bully

The Cows and Bulls all roam freely in India. They are not fenced in like here. So you can find them on major highways, streets, and in neighborhoods. It struck me funny that this bull, in the town of Ghandidaum in the Gugarat State, was on the second floor of a two story business complex. He was on this outside walkway around the second floor businesses. How could the bull get there? There was no elevator, just some stairs. He must have climbed the stairs and there he was stuck on the second floor. I called this Funny Fun Foto…”The Second Floor Bully!”

• Speaking Like A Fish?

I was giving my grandson, Benjamin, his first fishing lesson.

Jesus said, “follow me and I will make you fishers of men, and little wigglers!” I added the last part. However, it’s true that if you want catch fish you have to know something about the fish you want to catch. Or guess what? You will not be catching any fish today! What about those little ones?

On Aug. 15th, the 60th Anniversary of Independence Day in India, Sathyam Publications announced the release of the Malayalam version of the Dake’s Annotated Reference Bible. Malayalam is the language of the Indian State of Kerela. Although the Bible has been translated in the Malayalam language, there never has there been an Annotated Reference Bible translated in the vernacular of Kerela. This is historic! This is not all…

• A Gospel Honey Pot

In going through some old papers, I found a little poem that I wrote,
I thought I would share it with you here.

Gospel Honey Pot
by Barney Kinard

If the Gospel were a pot of honey,
We would spread it around.
Offering it to all without money,
Free for all in every town!

If the Gospel were a pot of honey,
We would offer it far and wide,
A cure for sin, it’s not funny.
For the taking, help when tried!

If the Gospel were a pot of honey,
We could remove all sadness soon.
Making the heart sunny,
Chasing darkness with a spoon!

If the Gospel were a pot of honey,
We would declare sweetness, hallelujah.
Just one spoon of that sticky stuff,
A little dab would do ya!

This is the season to follow the Pumpkin Trail. What is the Pumpkin Trail? Well, it is the trail you follow to get a total makeover. Yes, the change in your life where God picks you out, cleans you up, puts a smile on your face and puts His light inside your life. Then He puts you, O Jack O Lantern, on the right trail…

• Another Thousand Miles!

I decided to take a little trip North to Sacramento last weekend to visit my daughter Karina and her husband Michael. They just got a new home and I went to help pack some boxes before the move next weekend to Elk Grove, CA. By the time I returned home, I had driven more than a thousand miles and emptied my wallet. I experienced the pain of the higher travel expense again. Bennett’s cartoon from the Christian Science Monitor said it all. I had thought of flying…

My oldest son, Ken, sent this great picture of his three sons. There is Tennyson, Benjamin (the older) and Spencer Jackson (my middle name). Aren’t my grandsons cute? Ken just announced a new website for this masculine experience of raising three boys. You might want to go there and check out the early attempts to chronicle their family adventure. More family photos will be forthcoming. http://web.mac.com/dangerousboys

• Celebrate the Child

In the late 1990’s there was a group of national children’s ministries leaders that gathered four times a year at the Billy Graham Center on the campus of Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL. I was privileged to be a part of this group that worked hard to create an national initiative called Celebrate the Child. One of the many contributions that this diverse group made was a set of five sound statements about children’s ministry that could be universally adapted by most denominations and Para-church agencies.

• Neighborhood Lighthouse

The Good News Club: The Lighthouse in My Neighborhood

Just as the Lighthouse is a focused beacon of light to warn seafarers of impending danger of land, rocks and hidden underwater hazards, the Good News Club is a neighborhood lighthouse warning families of the dangers of neglecting the spiritual influence of their children. It’s always the children who pay the price of this spiritual neglect. This is the true story of how one neighbor made a difference by deciding to let her light shine.
